Ewww ... What was wrong with me?

Here is a photo of the psychopath and habitual liar Ya-Chang Robert Lin at the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport heading back to Taiwan to see his mistress and lowborn laborer father Lin Kuo Sung and elementary school teacher mother Chang Hsueh. He had sent this to Phandeluys back in September 2012. Her comment below the picture? Ewww ... I can barely stand looking at this entity without cringing and hurting my eyes and senses. I don't know what I saw in that creature. What was wrong with me? That was before she discovered the documents and proofs of his immigration and marriage fraud. Her senses were quicker to pick up on the duplicities.

After classes tonight, my friend and her partner are driving to a nearby town to paint the town red. The classes were invited and are tagging along. Perhaps, I will have a chance to waltz with her for more than a few minutes and bathe myself in that subtle notes of jasmine and gardenia trailing my friend.

Stay tune, and until next post,

About this blog

Excepting this introduction and what are—and will be—posted after March 2015, this blog mirrored a now out-of-commission blog, http://ya-chang-lin.blogspot.com, which was taken down on October 21, 2013 by its author Phandeluys Truong.

The author's original contents and supporting documents were captured by multiple means from the above-mentioned blog while it was alive and active. There may have been a glitch here and there that prevented me from downloading the complete blog as it had existed. Thus, readers familiar with the original blog may find a few missing posts and/or comments. Those postings that I was able to grab and preserve in their entirety are reposted here under my name, however, all rights remain that of the original author.

This series of posts documents the fraudulent, sometimes criminal, and frequent unethical/immoral activities of Ya-Chang Robert Lin, a Taiwanese native of mainland Chinese parentage, who defrauded a naturalized US citizen, Phandeluys Truong, into a marriage that had been his shield against USCIS for his intentional violations of immigration law:

as a nonimmigrant F-1 student, he had willfully operated an international students recruiting business without prior work authorization from the then United States Immigration and Naturalization Service;

as President of said business, he had knowingly helped both mainland Chinese and Taiwanese students to evade military drafts in their countries by facilitating their applications to study in the US and abroad;

as President of said business, he had knowingly helped both mainland Chinese and Taiwanese students looking to enter the United States with the intention of gaining permanent US resident status under the pretense of studying;

as President of said business, he had purposely evaded paying taxes on the commissions received from it and failed to report the earned income to the IRS by having the payments wired back to Taiwan to his mother Chang Hsueh;

he had applied for reinstatement of his F-1 or student status and a change of status, while knowingly withheld the preceding facts on his own applications for permanent resident and citizenship in the United States.

And those are just the tip of the iceberg. Ya-Chang Robert Lin had been employed at AAFES or The Exchange headquarter in Dallas, Texas as an information technology auditor, where he managed to steal—by downloading to CDs that he kept in his personal possession while abiding for time and opportunities to "do business" in Taiwan and/or China—thousands of his colleagues’ Social Security numbers and personnel files while working on one of its HR projects. The HR data on one of these projects became the basis for an academic paper, speaking proposal for ISACA, and a consulting business he was "collaborating with " [more like conning other people into developing and fronting for him].

Ya-Chang Robert Lin is a reprobate with a seared conscience. Lacking normal capacity for empathy, remorse, and reciprocation of good will, he is addicted to lying, cheating, and stealing for the pure pleasures derived from being able to get away with it. Because he is such a good liar—so charming and well versed in manipulation techniques and acting skills—it is hard to distinguish him from reprobates.

Ya-Chang Robert Lin was able to dupe some of the smart people in federal government, higher education, and information technology auditing and security. Among his legacy: A son who refused any connection with him and wished that he were dead.

Stealing and lying as a Taiwanese/Chinese norm?

For a more eye-opening look into who and what this psychopath Ya-Chang Robert Lin is, read the letter attached as a PDF.

It was written by Phandeluys at the beginning of her journey toward “loathsomeness” in trying to understand this constantly and continuously deceptive person. Like my friend had penned in her diary, “If I don’t like somebody, there’s a reason. ... Chances are it’s because you don’t trust them, and you’re probably right. I don’t care who it is or what other people say about keeping an open mind and giving yourself a chance to get to know them better … If you do get involve with somebody you don’t like sooner or later you’ll get screwed.”

Finally and against her stubborn nature, my friend wised up.

Below is the text of the letter for your reading convenience.

Dear Wendy,

It is important that you hear what follows directly from me, rather than through the gossip mills.

I am petitioning for a legal separation and divorce from Robert.

When I last mentioned divorce, Robert requested a six-month period during which he promised me he'll seek counseling in order to understand and rehabilitate his behaviors. It is now past the three months timeline, and nothing of the sort has happened. In place of legitimate actions that can benefit our relationship lay excuses that should be retired, and old promises that have little chance of ever materializing. I know as I have heard those recycled excuses and promises from his lips for the last ten years. As a sign of good faith, I asked that we both signed personal and notarized contracts detailing all the things we each promised to do in order to improve our marriage and family; he didn't think such a sign of good faith was necessary between us. When I kept pressing the matter, he stalled and tried distracting me with other minor issues. He thought I'd forgotten. I am still waiting and trying to give him the benefit of my doubts; but my faith in him is slowly and surely deteriorating to be replaced by a sense of loathsomeness.

I believe Robert once told you that the crux of our marital difficulties centered on money, or the lack of it. Just this past April 15th, I received a letter from the Provost Office at Fort Hays State University, stating that Robert will not be paid for the online teaching services that I have been rendering, as he did not sign and return the contract by the March 31, 2008 deadline. Funny thing is, for the past six weekends, I consistently reminded him about the contract and how important that $2000.00 was in relieving whatever financial stress he may be under. And every weekends, like a parrot, he would assured me that we will sit down, look at the contract, complete it, and mail it back to FHSU. That contract was in Robert's hands before January 2008 because I began teaching the online Advanced Web Development course in Fall 2007.

More shocking was his reaction to my delivery of that letter's message: Quiet. Then, "What do you want me to do?" More quiet. Then, "I'll paid you for teaching that course." How was my thought but I just told him, "You're unbelievable" before hanging up the telephone.

It is not only the $2000.00 that I mourned; it is also a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for foreigners like us to become an Associate Professor at a state university; a stepping stone on the ladder to more prestigious academic institutions in the United States and abroad. What of my love, care, thought, work and time? I planned and strategized; promoted Robert to my department chairman; advised Robert on what to write in his correspondences with the Department and the University; when Robert couldn't write, I wrote and edited his correspondences for him; evaluated, planned, and wrote the syllabi, the schedules, the assignments and the programming code for the Intro to Web Development, Advanced Web Development, Intensive Web Development, and Web Security courses for his Professorship at FHSU. Even the graphics for the individual assignments are my own work.

It is true that the FHSU Professorship began as a gift to Robert's Mother. It is her dream to see Robert obtain his Ph.D. and teach at a public university as a professor. It was naive of me to think that obtaining the professorship for Robert was the end of the gift; that Robert would teach these courses himself, with occasional help from me; or that he would credit me in bringing some happiness to his Mother. Even now, he has yet to inform his parents of my role in this personal glory of his. What I consistently hear is that in gifting the professorship to him and requiring Robert to teach the courses himself, instead of teaching the courses myself, that I was in effect trying to control him and destroy his reputation.

Frankly, I do not understand that logic; if he is not willing to teach, why not just be honest with his Mother and save me all my time and efforts?

Sadly, this situation seems a reincarnation of our earlier venture into the international students recruiting business. Before Robert and I came together at the University of Oklahoma, he had a business recruiting international students to study at three universities in the United States. Within one month of hands-on in the business, I brought the international students recruiting business up to over two hundred state universities from its humble origin of three. Robert was its President; all contracts were under his name; these contracts stipulated that all commission fees were payable to an account in Kaohsiung with a name I didn't then recognize but now know is his Mother's.

I grew and managed the business in its every aspects excepting contracts and financials. And when I asked about the money, Robert told me that we had spent it all; I just couldn't find records of the incoming fund or trace its spending. I took his words at face value and did not wise up until much too late.When the business failed, Robert tried pinning its demise on me. In actuality, it was due to his refusal to pay commissions to his Taiwanese agents such as Ching Shan - what agents are stupid enough to keep referring students without getting paid? Yes, I have documents - in English - proving the agencies kept asking for, and never received their commissions. But still Robert continues to try and pin the business failure on me whenever the topic crops up in conversation.

There have been many duplicities - his deliberate sabotage of my career, my business and my network of associates - that chip away at my confidence in Robert and our relationship, but the final one that really pushed me beyond my limits of endurance occurred in the past few days. We gave our nine-year old son a Dell laptop for gaming purposes. A month ago, while going through Dominicq's laptop - something I routinely do every morning to gain a sense of our son's growing interests while ensuring his online privacy and security - I stumble onto some very inappropriately adult contents - photos, videos and web site urls. After deleting them from the laptop, I confronted Robert about the situation. You know what his answer was? "If it was me - and I'm not saying it was me - what can I do to solve the problem?" I told him to keep such adult contents away from Dominicq and his laptop; I didn't care what Robert did with those materials so long as he does it on his own laptops and desktop. Not mine, and definitely not our son's. Robert promised me that he will never visit and download any adult contents on our son's laptop again.

Fast forward to the morning of April 15, 2008. This time I brought Dominicq's laptop with me on my visit to Robert's probation officer to ask for his assistance in solving the problem. (Robert is under probation for physically assaulting me; we both were involved in an altercation that escalated into Robert kicking open our bedroom door, and slamming me against the bedroom wall, dislocating my right shoulder and arm.) Unfortunately, there was not much the probationary office could do. My hands are tied unless I want to bring Child Prottective Services onto the scene, with a strong likelihood that our son would be removed from our home and from my care. This path is not something I can travel; I cannot ever imagine not personally taking care of Dominicq. Life, as I know it, will cease to exist for me should our son be taken away from me. I know Robert knows this and is using Dominicq as both his pawn and shield.

Looking back in hindsight, I think everything is about Robert - his education, his career, his business, his reputation, his money, his dancing, his growth; our relationship was never twosome or about mutual goals. I was and am his personal labor slave. Anything that I was involved in that could not benefit him in any way were potential threats in taking my thought, work and time away from helping him achieve his goals. Such were the fates of my independent projects:

a. Web Design & Development company - many of my assignments were scraped because Robert thought clients were trying to steal from me; funny how clients for whom I was doing pro bono work never seem to want to steal from me, only the clients who can afford to pay or who talked about partnering with me to expand our mutual business growth.

b. Creative writing & poetry publications - before marrying Robert, my writing were published in International Quarterly, The New Yorker, The International Poetry Review, Mundus Artium, New Directions, World Literature Today, Poetry, MoonRabbit Review, Writer's Digest, Nimrod, Kalliope, Spoon RiverPoetry Review, Voices International, Chiron Review, Potpourri; one month into our marriage, Robert told me how I should stop reading my books, stop devoting my time to creative writing, and instead focus my talents on helping him with his academic papers and business correspondences, the latter metamorphosing into full-blown career consultancy whereby I planned, strategized, advised Robert in his career at the DoD.

c. Ballroom dancing - for nine months in 2006 while Robert was training for the Waltz Team Showcase, I was there on the sideline watching and supporting him. Originally, my motivation for attending these Sunday practices stemmed from Robert's request to have a pair of critical eyes to help monitor and correct his steps. I was his private audience, so to speak. The hours before, during, and after practices were our bonding moments centered around the Waltz routine - he and I reviewed and discussed the instructor's choreographic vision of the patterns; the music and how it may be interpreted; the technicalities of lifts; the footwork and hand placements. Our discussions were geared toward Robert's individual learning, understanding, and progress. Then, we worked on fine tuning the details that enabled him to master the routine.

When Robert first asked me to come see him practice on Sundays, I had declined. My argument was that the instructor and other team members may feel unduly put upon. My presence may not be good for the team's morale. Despite my objections and the team's reluctance, Robert insisted.

I was not interested in the Waltz Team's routine; much less the women's patterns. I was, however, very interested in seeing, understanding, and capturing the creative and spiritual essence of the instructor's artistic vision and dance choreography - to know and to portray his uncompromising standard, vast talent, versatility, and genius in dance - both in person and on camera.

I don't know what Robert's motivations for dancing are; I suspect popularity, ego, and a sense of achievement are parts of the package - these are the more consistent threads I sense running through the reasons he gives which vary from week to week. I'd contemplated my motivations deep into the night and the following answer reflects my search for understanding.

I am thoughtful, selective, reserved, sometimes repressed in emotions. This leads to frustration and inhibition of my emotions. I recognize the need to ferret out the inhibition and to express my feelings through beauty and more creativity - something I am able to do through creative writing, web design, and fashion design - all loner and invisible activities. I'd like to add ballroom dancing to this list of mental, emotional, physical and spiritual creative outlets.Yet I also need time to be alone - meditate, study, and to think, for in this way I create beauty from the depth of meditation and appreciation of perfection.

Poetically writing, what I feel from ballroom dancing - whether as participant or onlooker - is

An ease that might grace our necessary fictions.
There, our identities would be like Haydn's symphonies,
Structures of balanced contradictions,
For all their evident restrictions,
Crazy with lightness and desire:
La Passione, Mercury, Tempesta, Mourning, Fire.

At times, I want to move like part of the night, dark, sleek, sweeping in like a black storm off the sea. My body form a force of nature, moving gracefully yet with the power of the wind.

Question is how do I express all of that on the dance floor, among a crowd - with my emotional inhibition and need for precision and perfection? Sometimes, I envy the sheer joy and freedom other people exude in moving rhythmically and expressively to music on the dance floor.

Technically writing, what I want from ballroom dancing are improved posture, coordination, balance, precision, timing, concentration, knowing how to follow, mastering styling characteristics of each dance style, knowing when to begin with the music, how to match my footwork to the tempo of the music, and how to move in unison with my partner in a repetitive, rhythmic, and fluid manner.

Robert was convinced we have what it takes to dance competitively - to take it as far as the Ohio Star Ball and The Triple Crown - and place in the top five. I have doubts, but if possible, would like to partner with him on that journey. I do not fear the mental, emotional and physical fortitude the training requires of us - I believe the process will impact our lives for the better in terms of common vision, goals, respect for each other's rights, and appreciation of one another's efforts. However, that is not how things have turned out. Immediately after the Waltz Team Showcase, and after I pushed him to visit DCCC and helped him to land the contract to teach ballroom dance class, Robert voiced the opinion that he was too good of a dancer for me - an opinion he said both him and the dancing community share. No matter how much I trained - and most of time I trained by myself at the gym after putting our son to bed and with my own materials given that Robert hides training materials from me; naturally, Robert was busied dance hosting, taking classes, and attending dance parties to add to our income, or so the reason Robert gave me - I was never good enough as Robert's dance partner. He kept telling me how much better it would be for him that his dance partner is 5 ft 8 in tall and is an Eastern European descendant. Now, he wants to turn Professional and start competing with other women.

Well, that is all fine by me. What I want is to no longer be manipulated and used by Robert. I don't want to have to work on getting more dance teaching contracts on Robert's behalf so that he can keep on building his dancing credentials. I don't want to have to strategize and map out his dancing career path, in addition to managing Robert's dancing business from day-to-day while he is out in the community dancing, performing and being entertaining with some other women. I don't want to help Robert analyze and untangle whatever dance pattern he is learning - the only time when I get to view the training materials are when Robert is stuck in not understanding the materials and needs my help. Otherwise, I am left in the dark, and all he would say to me is "just follow the lead."

At this stage of my life, I want transparent motives that are translated into clear, unmistakable actions from people who are coordinated and resolute - people who stay true to their beliefs and principles. I am going to follow my heart's lead in finding my own independence and happiness, away from Robert and his half-truths, convenient lies, and self-congratulations upon thinking that he has successfully deceived me.

Wendy, I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for your unerring advice and compassionate support, but most of all, for standing by me and showing such generosity and dignity in helping me deal with what has to be the second most agonizing reality of my life. I will always be grateful.

That is all I wanted you to know. I may or may not be at DCCC this coming Sunday. Robert has threatened to tell the Center of our divorce, and how I am too unprofessional and emotional to teach classes without bringing troubles to the Center. And, as been proven by previous and similar events, the Center will have chosen to believe him as he speaks Taiwanese and Chinese; and shows such mannerly appearances and courtly charms. Great deceivers always do.

Phandeluys

 p.s.

Since you are a Taiwanese native, can you help me to understand something about your country's traditions? Is it true that when your parents in-law visit you, that they have the right to take whatever item from you that they want back with them when they leave? I am not familiar with Taiwanese culture, and has not been able to confirm the veracity of this statement; even my mother who was one of the top three female students to enter and graduate from our country's first International Law program is suspicious. On at least one occasion, my Mother-In-Law has taken items, for instance, our son's king-sized goose down blanket, on her trip back to Kaohsiung. On such occasions, I only found out after she left, and always with Robert assuring me that behavior is normal in his culture.

Is it also normal behavior for grandparents to take out a life insurance policy on their grandchild? Because that's what Robert's parents did one year after our son was born.

Fake relationship masquerading as marriage

My friend is humming with energy and happiness this morning as she came into Starbucks for her “venti shaken ice coffee with nine pumps of Classic and 75% coffee and 25% cream.”

Decked out in a silk blouse, leather skirt, and simple classic pumps sans her work accoutrements, she did not linger for conversations nor settle in for the usual meet.

Perhaps tomorrow.

Having already penned many posts for this blog, I hesitate to publish them, dreading they might inadvertently derail my friend’s court hearings in the days ahead. A firm believer in the saying, “First do no harm,” [that is attributed to Thomas Inman as recently as 1860 and not as part of the Hippocratic Oath as widely believed], I am going to bide my time in releasing my writing and the documentations supporting my arguments.

In the meantime, as I work my way through her journal about her experience, I will quote from her diary, and then follow with my own opinion, if need be.

…

More than a year after removing myself from the situation did I realized that the “marriage” I was in was a fake relationship. One that looked like a relationship on the surface—we spend a lot of time together, we had met each other’s loved ones, and other people refer to us as a “couple.” But appearances aside, I was not having a real relationship—one based on love and characterized by harmony. …

… My marriage was nothing more than a temporary bridge to this psychopath’s green card, work authorization, an ambitious climb up the federal and academic job ladders, and eventual citizenship in the United States—a fake relationship masquerading as a real relationship.

Instead of love, harmony, support and understanding, it was characterized by:

a. The same patterns of the same issues and same arguments again and again that seemed unable to be resolved permanently or successfully.

b. That back-of-the-mind feeling of unsafe or misunderstood, as if I had to shut down a part of myself. A relationship cannot be real if you constantly feel like your significant other just does not get you, and that you are not free to say exactly what is on your mind.

c. Power struggles in proving or disproving someone is right. I did not care to play the role of the victim or the perpetrator, nor was I vying to be one. Does it even matter who is right and who is wrong? I did not care who wins, only that we resolve the issue once and for all so we can move forward together. Looking back, I know now that that was never going to happen.

d. Real relationships are hard work but when you are consistently feeling drained with your significant other, watch out and heed that warning sign! Especially if you are a person like me who invests a lot in being a responsible person. Sure, everything takes effort, but are you not supposed to feel happy and at ease with each other when making an effort on their behalf?

...

Finally, I am able to see my “blind spots” that doomed me to keep pedaling the cycle of pain and struggle.

Finally, I am able to move forward in creating that joyful, loving and connected relationship we all deserve. … The truth can set you free—you just have to live through the pain first before you can breathe freely.

Here’s to initiating the things I know will make me feel complete, whole, and in the driver’s seat of my life.

I second that, wholeheartedly!

Stay tune, and until next post,

Results of the accidental crowdsourcing of the translation of psychopath Ya-Chang Robert Lin's original birth certificate

I was reading through some of the court transcripts of the trial and am amazed at how much lies there were coming out of psychopath Ya-Chang Robert Lin’s mouth.

I am already aware how he disses this country’s immigration laws by lying on his applications for student visa, green card, and citizenship [see that post here] but to unashamedly lie while under oath and on the stand, well, I should have anticipated that. It is not too far a leap to jump from fudging on applications to USCIS to lying under oath in the District Court of Denton County.

I will delve into some of those lies in the coming posts. But for now, I wanted to let readers and subscribers know that I have received your personal translations of this habitual Taiwanese liar and psychopath’s birth certificate, along with the certified copy I had had translated from a company that USCIS itself uses.

Its posting on this blog will have to be delayed, pending my friend’s hearing, however, I can assure you that your translations are not too far off the mark, and that we are justified in labeling this cover-up poseur a liar and a psychopath.

A quick post revised

Seems that my friend was served this morning to appear in court for a hearing on a Motion for Enforcement.

She does not look too worry or anxious, though, as she reads her Shakespeare while sipping her coffee. That’s a good sign.

I had been meaning to complete that other post before, but became hesitant after journeying deeper into Phandeluys’ diary. Without muting her voice, though, I am going to spill the guts of that other post below.

I am reading through Phandeluys' digital stack of documents, which had been retrieved from the hard drives and laptop she had discarded and among which included her legal pleadings; the length of this digital mound would make War and Peace short reading.

Now, I truly understand why she insisted on annulling her marriage after 15+ years.

I would, too, had my heart, hope, dream, and family been exploited and maimed by a spinner who makes up lies faster than anyone can question him, accompany by total absence of anxiety, fear, worry and guilt where there otherwise would be, and the fundamental concepts of honesty and kindness.

In her digital diary, Phandeluys wrote that love is a basic human right and an individual choice—choices based on our values, beliefs, and perceptions of where a selected one may take us—and that marriage is a business in which we invest our lives.

In normal circumstances, choices are difficult because at times, we cannot collect all the data, analyze the options, and reach a sound conclusion resulting in a decision that we will have to live with. But what if the choices we made were the result of spreading misinformation and defensive maneuvering—including playing dumb, stalling, bluffing and misrepresenting—meant to deceive us and to drag the people we love into violating the laws? Is the choice we made then still the choice we must live with? Should we not be allowed to right the wrong?

That’s the question she was struggling with, and a question am pondering.

I am experiencing what she must have felt, and I have been terribly offended.

Stay tune, and until next post,

The justice system

Below is an excerpt from a writing therapy assignment my friend’s son wrote about his experience with and understanding of the person whose DNA he shares.

It had been posted to his online social channel.

Thanks, C.S.P., for the access.

One of the things my father “schooled” me in is the fact that most Chinese and Taiwanese are afraid of the justice system—about nine out of ten Chinese and Taiwanese will do just about anything to remain beyond the reach of the legal realm. This is because the majority of them make their living or accumulate their financial assets not through hard and honest work but through under-the-table bribery, corruptions, blackmails, manipulations, threats, and outright “accidental” killings, if necessary; and having the justice department even glancing their way make for a really inconvenient way to live “as usual.”
He himself boasted to me on a few occasions that his father—my yèhyé—trained him, at an early age, on how to pick up unmarked bags of bribery money before sending him out on those “money runs” back in Taiwan. He had seemed so proud recalling such memories until I asked him if my mother was aware of the things he was telling me. Then, he just clamped down and asked me why I had to go and “ruin everything” by bringing up my mother in our “talks.” But this subject and another conversation in which he told me if while traveling in Taiwan, you accidentally hit a pedestrian with your car, it would be best if you go ahead and kill the pedestrian and escape rather than try and help the latter because that pedestrian—like everyone in Taiwan—is looking to make easy money and will be forever badgering and suing you for all kinds of care for the remainder of his or her natural life, are writing topics for another day.
So, if one is keen on cheating a Chinese or Taiwanese out of resources or assets that are not yet firmly in his or her grasp, just mention the fact that you are considering taking them to court or suing them and the chance that they will give in to your “negotiation” is 99.99 percent.
Now, I do not know if what he said is truthful fact or fancy delusion, and this is something that I must always struggle with when it comes to evaluating the words that flow out of my father’s mouth.
But that is how he goes about getting “free” services from his own community. For example, he would contract an individual for her tax or accounting services, and after this person rendered her services, he would refuse to pay the full amount due by claiming that the work done is sub-par. To prevent the service provider from arguing otherwise, he would threaten to have her work “evaluated” by a third-party and have the evaluation fee charged to the service provider before taking her to court for trying to “cheat” him. In the end, he gets what he wanted: free service or a fifty or more percent discount off the original service fee.
I am not a judgmental kind of guy but swindling a service provider out of her or his living wage may be a street-smart tactic. It just did not sound very smartor right—to me.

Alice and ballroom dancing

Below is an excerpt from a school assignment my friend’s son wrote about his father, ballroom dancing, and a woman named Alice.

It had been posted to an online blog for teen writers.

Thanks, S.M., for the url and access.

My Mom taught me that we learned what to expect from the people we dealt with mostly by interacting with them and seeing what happened.
What I learned about my father by trying to interact with him is that he does not care about other people—be they family, friends, colleagues, or acquaintances. He only pretends to care in order to use them or to “buy” time to halt the problem and get away before it erupt. Let me explain with an example. It involve a woman named Alice.
Alice is an older woman with whom my father began his ballroom dancing journey: she was his partner in many of the group dance classes, social dance practice sessions and parties because she was more than willing to partner with and to pay for him at a time when he was deficient in both dancing/leading skills and money.
Alice was also the only person willing to pay the money to bail him out from jail for assaulting my mother.
For a time, he was quite satisfied with the arrangement with Alice until his dancing/leading skills improved to the point that other women in the dancing community took notice and became eager to partner with and to pay for him. That is when his attitude toward Alice change. Overnight, she became “unbearably ugly” so that he had to put on “blinders” just to partner with her on the dance floor.
He tried avoiding her through various means: misinforming her about class schedules and studio locations; feeding her the wrong information about which social dancing events he might attend for a particular Friday and/or Saturday, hoping that she would not search for him; telling her he would be at a studio at a certain time only to show up 30 to 45 minutes late, knowing she would not have a partner to practice with and would leave as a result. Had she guessed correctly about where he might be and find him then he would make all kinds of excuses as to why he cannot dance with her.
One of the excuses was her being “too short” so dancing with her would break his all-important dance frame. Naturally, he would couch these excuses so as not to offend her; thus, instead of him complaining about having to break his frame to accommodate her short stature, he made it seem that he care too much about her dancing progress and that she should not be made to break her frame by dancing with him.
He is very good at doing that—twisting words and things around so that you feel you owe him because he has your best interest at heart while actually caring little or nothing about you.
Alice, however, does not give in nor does she give up easily on the person whom she had invested much time and money—a person she had introduced into her network of influential friends and associates—in exchange for a dancing partnership.
As an unbeatable Viennese Waltz dancer—or so he thought of himself and proclaimed to my mother—within the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area, a man whom every women who loves dancing would seek out and fight over among themselves for a chance to dance with, my father hated being stuck dancing with an “ugly old woman” when other equally wealthy and more attractive options are available. In his eyes, Alice might still be an acceptable partner in dance classes as she is a quick learner and able to help him troubleshoot some spotty patterns, but she is no longer a viable dance partner for him at social ballroom dancing events. In those places, she is simply a nuisance to be rid of.
Now, Alice loves to dance the slow Waltz—it is a dance she could not get enough of but because of the lack of quality male dancer who can lead her through such vigorous routine on the dance floor, she was always in a state of unfulfilled wanting.
And Alice’s heart-felt longing was something he exploited: on those occasions when he finds himself face-to-face with Alice at the same social gatherings, and tiring of seeing her “ugly and unruly” face that can “dampen the life of any party,” he would wait for her frustration from having to dance with bad leads to build while working himself up to giving her the dance she desires so that she would leave the party in rapture from the Waltz or Viennese Waltz he was willing to “throw her way.”
He did not mind partnering up with Alice for the East Coast Swing or Jive and Cha-Cha, which he thought she was good at because her feet were quick. And though he minded terribly at the thought of having to waltz through the dance floor with Alice, he saw it as an act of personal sacrifice and contribution for the common good—since he felt that ballroom dancing is a playground reserved only for those with talents, looks, and money, he would see to it that those lacking this trio are encouraged to leave so there would be more space for the ones remaining. He was sure that after having endured all those bad dances for one-third of the social evening, Alice would want to preserve a rapturous memories of having waltzed with the Best Ballroom Male Dancer in Texas by departing for home where she can continue that vision and sensation of having danced the most elegant and beautiful Waltz while being the object of every women’s envy for the entire evening.
And as he had planned, an unknowing and grateful Alice would oblige him by leaving after having been twirled around the dance floor in a spirited and elegant Waltz or Viennese Waltz.
Whether they are truthful facts or fancy delusions, every time he recite them to me, his eyes swell with pride in having come up with a clever maneuver to rid himself and the social dancing parties of Alice’s presence while making it seem like he was doing Alice a favor for which she owe him.
I cannot say the same about my feelings toward him—all I felt were unrelenting headaches and nausea, and a need to get away from him. ...
This post ends here though the writing continues with more detailed reflections and self-understanding.

Psychopathic father, as seen and interpreted through a teen's eye

Here is a letter [it opens in another window as a PDF file] that was written by my friend’s 16-year old son, who refused any and all familial connection with the psychopath whose DNA he shares.

The letter is addressed to “The Jerk who goes by the name of Ya-Chang Robert Lin or Robert Ya-Chang Lin."

Thanks, S., for the file.

The content of the letter is copied and pasted below for the reader’s convenience.

To: The Jerk who goes by the name of Ya-Chang Robert Lin or Robert Ya-Chang Lin
I know my mother will disapprove some of the thoughts and emotions expressed in this letter; however, I think it is time that she is made aware of how deeply my hatred and disgust toward you and your kind goes. Due to my indifference and reluctance to talk about you and yours—I see no reason why I should expend time, energy, and other precious resources thinking and talking about people who are complete strangers to me—I have mistakenly gave her the impression that I care about you and want to renew my relationship with you and your kind. Nothing can be further from the truth.What I want is a complete severance of all ties to you and yours. Thus, I am carbon copying this letter to my mother so she may finally understand and accept—once and for all—just exactly how much you and yours mean to me: Nothing.
Given the abusive history from you to me and what I had learned about you, your family, and its perversions—via your talks with me versus the lies you shamelessly told in court, I would rather be placed in a foster home than be forced to stay with you and/or your relatives for any length of time. You may have gotten away with physically laying your hands on me in the past—in my mother’s absence that provided the necessary intervention to protect me against your so-called Asian discipline of child—but try coming near me, hitting, kicking, shoving, pushing, and throwing things against me and I promise you I will not back down nor walk away per my mother’s advice, and instead will strike out against you until you feel and understand what it is to be beaten by someone of stronger physicality than you. And unlike you, I almost always follow through on the promises I make—the way my mother and her family taught me to.
For me to sit in court and hear your lies—part of me wished I had your playacting and deceiving skills; my mother would have won the suit against you had she learned how to pretend and lie as well as you and those cheating lawyers you hire. Yet, a big part of me (and I am convinced this side of me comes from my mother and her side of the family) felt an overwhelming disgust at such connivance. You are a coward backed by bullies and brutes that call themselves lawyers, and I cannot stand to be in the same space with you or to even look at you—being in your vicinity sickens me, physically and emotionally. The world would be a cleaner place without you and the animals who raised you.
I do not know if the majority of Taiwanese and Chinese are like you but given your constant verbal claim of being among the top 10 per cent of your people in terms of your family background, moral character, and accomplishments, I have to wonder about the animal race you came from. It frightens me to be surrounded by people like you—the range of deluded self-aggrandizement and lies that you engage in to trick and manipulate other honest and decent people into believing in order to advance your selfish goals and ambitions. All without any remorse for the pains you and your kind cause.
I used to be able to reference an animal when thinking and talking about you and your people; a chameleon came to my mind, but that is grossly unfair to it: chameleons are strangely beautiful in their own way; you and your kind are unspeakably ugly in every ways. The truth is, I think even an animal is better than you and your kind; at least, an animal is true to itself. You and your kind are like this shapeless and shiftless thing that borrows characters from everything and anything, so long as whatever you borrow and don allows you to pull blinders over people’s eyes and use them to your advantage. You and those like you—not surprisingly, the majority of those inside the Taiwanese and Chinese community that I was unlucky enough to have encountered and witnessed—are a cancer spreading the disease of immoral corruptions. You all need to go back to where you come from to breed, traffic and live in disease among yourselves.
Fact is, I do not care about you—never had and never will. If it was not for my mother, I would have never given you a chance: to try spending time with you, to try talking with you, to try learning your interests while showing you mine. I knew all my effort would be for nil and tried telling my mother that; unfortunately for me, with her being the gently tenacious and decent person she is, she insisted and so I tried.
I said tried because we both know our shallow interactions were purely about you and your desperate need to present to the outside world what a good father and moral guide you claim to be. The truth is, you do not know me—and not because my mother has kept me away from you and “brainwashed” me as you wantonly shout out to anyone who are foolish enough (or whose buttocks you have kissed enough) to give you a hearing—but because you are a selfish, moronic bastard who cares not enough to look beyond yourself and your interests, yet blames everyone else for your own flaws, failings, and shortcomings.
You have never known anything about me; and if I have anything to say about the matter, you will never know anything about and of me. Yet, I know enough about you, your family, and your kind to realize I do not want to become anything resembling you and them, or to ever have anything to do with any of you as long as I live. You are deeply deluded if you harbor any thought of me liking you and your kind; I can hardly acknowledge—nor do I want to without psychological revulsion—those animals that created, birthed and raised you as the creature you have been and are. I have no words—at least not the words used in polite company—for you, your parents, and your people.
Do not try and blame my mother for “brainwashing” me against Taiwanese, Chinese or Asian people. My mother and her family—my family—are all Asian and I like her—and my—kind just fine. It is not about the Asian in general that I loathe but your kind—the uneducated (despite the years you may have mindlessly spent in schools “learning”), lying, cheating, stealing, backstabbing, sociopathic kind—that I tend to look down upon and to want to disassociate myself from. Not only are you a bad seed but a bad influence who never gets tire of lying and betraying. Being in your presence or anywhere near your kind makes me feel I am being violated. I cannot shake off that feelings for days on ends.
On too many occasions—all of which have been staged in front of witnesses for their convenience and your playacting—you told me you love me and is doing your best for my happiness. You claimed—in the presence of my counselors—that everything that has happened is my mother’s fault and it is neither your intention nor action to hurt me. I suppose you lying—on the stand and under oath—about me sleeping with my mother in the master bed behind locked door is you protecting me. Even I know that if you are going to lie, you must never leave evidence to the contrary but since everything that comes out of your mouth is almost guaranteed to be a lie or an embellishment of some kind, you are unlikely to think of the facts, evidences, and witnesses that might disprove the lies you feed yourself and the people you hang around with and who love eating the craps—disguised as gourmet—you feed them.
I am not one of those people who fail to distinguish between your crap and real gourmet food; just the stink of you and yours makes me ill. I am amazed and must always ask myself whether you have any sense of decency and self-awareness and honesty in relating to others, other than to manipulate them. Or did the animals that birthed and raised you—coupled with the social environment in which you grew up in—perverted you so badly that you never had a chance to develop that sense of right-and-wrong concerning your behavior and interactions with others.
Seriously, do you even know what being a father mean? Should I list all those exceptional lessons I have learned from your shining examples of a father to me? Let us count the ways:
• Have you been a friend to me? Do you even know what being a friend mean? Like I stated in court, you are like a toxic friend who is fun to hang out with but in the long term poisons the emotional, moral, financial and physical lives of the people he touches. I write from my experience with you. In just one day alone with you, and under your coaching and modeling, I learned how to steal by embedding smaller yet more expensive unpaid merchandises into bigger boxed items and to sneak them out of retail stores. If this is the legacy your father and mother handed down to you, and that you are looking to hand down to me, no thanks. Go and showcase your talent among the Taiwanese and Chinese community; am sure they will laud you and your cleverness while figuring out how they might learn from you for their own benefit.
• Have you been an anchor I can rely on in time of emotional turbulence or have you been the cause of those turmoil in my life? How many times have you blamed me for any and all fights between you and my mother, telling her that I intentionally set her up against you or you against her so I can benefit from both sides? Thank goodness my mother is not one for listening to “idle talk and complaint” and taking action based on it without conversing and verifying with the relevant parties. Thank goodness, too, that she never loses her faith in my character—she knows she raised a good person and never doubted that I almost always do the right thing.
Have you been a teacher I can learn from? And I don’t mean the skillsets you so proudly exhibit:
  • disrespecting my mother behind her back when you think my silence is your permit to continue your lies about and insults against her;
  • disrespecting my counselors by calling them “morons” who have no rights to counsel others when their own lives are such messes, and just because they are overweight—thank you for a lesson on how not to think logically; my mother and I had so much fun discussing how being overweight may or may not lead to messy or dysfunctional lives, and if that variable may or may not affect the counselors’ professional competency;
  • disrespecting my teachers and suspecting their lack of competence to teach because they do not possess your so-called post-graduate degrees—was it the Ph.D. in Mathematics or Economics or Computer Science—I admit to being confused about which degrees you actually have—they seem to change depending on the audience you are speaking to. Do you even have a Ph.D. or did you complete your coursework but never submitted your dissertation because you cannot formulate and write it? And if you never completed your dissertation to get your degree, am I to be blamed for that, too, for the fact that you could not hack both studying and working to support the family you so wanted? Whatever happen to the retelling of you rocking me to sleep on your left arm while studying your final exam review materials on your right arm—the story you broadcasted to almost everyone you meet in trying to appear a dedicated family man and scholar? And if I am relieved from being blamed for you not completing your studies and getting your degree, does that mean my mother is at fault for refusing to cheat by writing your dissertation for you? Have you never wondered if you not finishing your dissertation and getting your degree is solely your fault and no one else’s? Or perhaps your error lies in you being the cheapskate that you are and unwilling to pay a ghostwriter to write your dissertation for you? Fortunately for you, there is a solution to that: pay any Taiwanese or Chinese person enough and s/he will cheat and lie on your behalf. Oh, but that would leave you vulnerable to their blackmail, and you cannot have that on your pristine record, right? So much for trusting your own kind. Of course, you can always try buying your pedigree online. Amazing what I can find about you and your interests by tracing your browsing history on the laptop we shared, huh?
  • helping me to understand the horrible events that happened to the Chinese people seeking shelter and protection during the Nanking Massacre as partly depicted in “The Flowers of War,” by pointedly telling me that, and I quote, “one of these day, all the Chinese will go to Japan and rape all the Japanese there.” I told my mother what you said; she burst out laughing before she explained the Nanking Massacre (and gave me a book on that subject to read for myself) and detailed how the movie deviated from the history with its maudlin, sensationalized, and propagandized reinterpretation. We also talked about your inappropriate, immature, and uneducated reaction to the movie. Afterward, I understand why my mother discouraged me from watching that movie, in particular, and other similar types of movies with you.
Until you began harassing me with your text messages, embarrassing me by showing up at my school and conducting your ass-kissing and crocodile-tearing shows for my counselors, and causing me physical symptoms of stress and illness by pulling me out of class to meet with you, I was indifferent to you; whether and how you and yours live and/or die, I did not care. But now, I want nothing more than for you and anyone relating to you to disappear from my life. If that means you and yours die, I am all for it—the sooner, the better. It will have been a New Year’s gift I have been nightly praying for.

Stay tune, and until next post,

About this blog

Excepting this introduction and the posts that are published after March 2015, this blog mirrored a now out-of-commission blog, http://ya-chang-lin.blogspot.com, which was taken down on October 21, 2013 by its author Phandeluys Truong.

This series of posts documents the fraudulent, sometimes criminal, and frequent unethical/immoral activities of Ya-Chang Robert Lin, a Taiwanese native of mainland Chinese parentage, who defrauded a naturalized US citizen, Phandeluys Truong, into a marriage that had been his shield against USCIS for his intentional violations of immigration law:

as a nonimmigrant F-1 student, he had willfully operated an international students recruiting business without prior work authorization from the then United States Immigration and Naturalization Service;

as President of said business, he had knowingly helped both mainland Chinese and Taiwanese students to evade military drafts in their countries by facilitating their applications to study in the US and abroad;

as President of said business, he had knowingly helped both mainland Chinese and Taiwanese students looking to enter the United States with the intention of gaining permanent US resident status under the pretense of studying;

as President of said business, he had purposely evaded paying taxes on the commissions received from it and failed to report the earned income to the IRS by having the payments wired back to Taiwan to his mother Chang Hsueh;

he had applied for reinstatement of his F-1 or student status and a change of status, while knowingly withheld the preceding facts on his own application for permanent resident and citizenship in the United States.

And those are just the tip of the iceberg.

Ya-Chang Robert Lin had been employed at AAFES or The Exchange headquarter in Dallas, Texas as an information technology auditor, where he managed to stealby downloading to CDs that he kept in his personal possession while abiding for time and opportunities to "do business" in Taiwan and/or Chinathousands of his colleagues’ Social Security numbers and personnel files while working on one of its HR projects. The HR data on one of these projects became the basis for an academic paper,  speaking proposal for ISACA, and a consulting business he was "collaborating with " [more like conning other people into developing for him].
