I love these aphorisms

A difficult time can be more readily endured if we retain the conviction that our existence holds a purpose, a cause to pursue, a person to love, a goal to achieve.

~ John Maxwell

Fear is only as deep as the mind allows.

~ Ancient Japanese Proverb

Neither life nor talent stands still.  Standing still leads inevitably to retrogression.  The actor does things that he has done before, perhaps more easily, but without the electrifying spark that usually arises in young people when they do their first productions.  We then see the terrifying struggle that almost always begins with success, when the actor begins to repeat and to imitate, if not someone else, what is even worse, to imitate himself and thus pay a terrible price in his most important commodity, the very thing that singled him out at the beginning, his talent.

~ Lee Strasberg

Whenever two people meet, there are six people present.  There is each man as he sees himself, each man as the other person sees him, and each man as he really is.

~ William James

Never give in—never, never, never, never—in nothing great or small, large or petty—never give in except to convictions of honor and good sense.

~ Winston Churchill

We do not need competency skills for this life.  We need incompetency skills, the skills of being effective beginners.

~ Peter Vaill

Things come to those who wait, but only things left by those who hustle.

~ Abraham Lincoln

Your typical Chang-Lin "parenting"

So who is the parent and who is the child?

Child support is a child's rights; stupidity or ignorance of the law or convenient forgetfulness is never an excuse.

To each his or her own

What my fourteen-year-old found while googling Ya-Chang Lin.

We were discussing male attractiveness and tackiness, appearance-wise ... and these were among a dozen or so of the photos he had downloaded and shown to me in his quest to understand what makes an individual handsome.

My response to these mugshots?  No Comments.  Thank goodness my son did not push for elaborations, as he frequently does on everything we talk about.

Naturally, we touched upon the differences among the qualities of the adjectives attractive, lovely, charming, pleasing, pretty, handsome, and beautiful, with him identifying and isolating the physical characteristics he sees as representing those adjectives, and creating his own photo collage of the "beautiful people" for his personal reference and amusement.

Fifteen thousand dollars in tax refund from an $80K per year job ... pure stupidity or plain delusion, the Taiwanese/Chinese style?  Just because one chooses to remain ignorant does not mean others are blind and neglect to conduct due diligence.
