When am not working—whether paid or unpaid, in monetary currency or in professional recognition and credential—as a designer, consultant, writer, editor and educator, I spend my time imagining, exploring, learning, laughing and growing with my fourteen-year-old. My hobbies include breaking systems apart, skydiving, playing video games, strategizing, languages, and creative writing.
The adjectives people use to describe me include private, loyal, and complex.
I'm most proud of my commitment to seeking new ways of thinking, feeling and living on a lifetime journey to becoming a better student, a better worker, a better friend, a better partner, a better parent, a better teacher, a better person.
I do not have a favorite academic subject; I am opened to learning about every subjects under the academic sun—so long as they are taught with imagination and do not stifle the learner's initiative, thoughtfulness, curiosity, resourcefulness, perseverance, and desire to be creative. Unfortunately, most schools—from kindergarten up through college—suck at teaching people how to learn.
The people I would most like to meet [and quietly observe for an extensive time period] include my mother at various stages of her life, the Dalai Lama, and Bill Gates [of Microsoft].
I do not have a favorite musical artist or a best song at any moment in time. However, my favorite songs all have "trapdoors, secret gardens and hidden staircases"—they are full of surprises, unexpected discoveries, and hauntings.
I wish I knew how to read in every languages of the world ... to have unlimited credit at any major book shops that carry international publications and titles ... to gain unlimited access to the latest technological and digital innovations for reverse engineering purposes ... to bring the hopes and dreams of every child that I encounter to fruition.
I get inspiration from almost everywhere and everything; the beauty of life is that it can always surprise me.
If I could travel anywhere, I would go everywhere, as long as it is by a hot air balloon.
My pet peeves are people who are unwilling to look deeply into both their inner world and their outer world in order to earnestly seek the truth in both; and having to be around and interact with such people.
The first thing I notice about any man is his eyes, and whether they reflect depth and insight. Awareness and acceptance are critical on the journey through the dark mire of human sexuality and emotion, through the struggles of two people trying to pierce the veil of illusions and fantasies so that they may couple as individuals and experience the transformation which comes from the abdication of power over another.
I long for a man who's loyal and honest and hard working ... a man who's confident without being overbearing ... a man who makes me laugh ... a man who surprises me by being unpredictable ... a man who boosts my confidence rather than destroying it ... a man who writes me romantic poems and love letters; these are the kinds of things that dry up when you've been together for a while ... a man who knows his way around a woman's body ... a man who knows how to protect his woman ... a man to whom I can be and give all those things, and more.
Ah, the simple things in life ... Now, if we could just define love so that it becomes an elixir that always serves to rejuvenate flagging spirits instead of a psychological caging to control and possess one another; with much of it involves crushing the other person's dreams.
